Get ready for an amazing August in the Bradford district. With summer in full swing and the kids off school, it’s a great time to visit the district and check out some of the brilliant events coming up this month. Here are just a few of the highlights.

Enjoy a Yorkshire Day celebration at the Bradford Industrial Museum on Tuesday, 1st August with plenty of games, demonstrations and Yorkshire Rascals to go around. Be sure to check out all the other offerings at Bradford Museums over the month too, as there’s loads for kids to get involved with like giant board games and toy-making plus a chance to see a previously unseen Raphael painting at Cartwright Hall art gallery.

See the travelling exhibition Picturing High Streets on display on Bank Street and outside the Bradford Visitor Information Centre until 28th August. This collection of photographs submitted by the public present a fascinating snapshot of a year in the life of England's high streets.

Join in the Summer Reading Challenge ‘Ready, Set, Read!’ throughout the summer, Bradford Libraries will have lots of great books to read and lots of fun activities for kids, all with a sports theme.

The BrickLive Fantasy Kingdom Trail, brought to you by Bradford BID, continues through the streets of Bradford city centre until 6th August, featuring fantasy-themed toy brick creations to be found. Pick up a trail map at the Bradford Visitor Information Centre on Broadway and head out to discover them all.

Young families will love spending a day out at Nell Bank in Ilkley for one of the Discovery Days. On Thursdays and Fridays between the 3rd and 11th August, you can follow the safari trail, splash around in the water play area or explore the adventure playground.

Visit the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway every weekend until the 20th August for the Vintage Trains Weekends and take a ride in some very rare and historic carriages which normally form part of the railway’s museum collection, some of which date back to the Victorian era.

Discover fresh and delicious locally sourced food at the Real Food Market in The Grove, Ilkley on Sunday, 6th August. You’ll find everything from tasty treats to dinner table staples and more waiting for you.

The UK’s largest military show returns to Hunsworth from 11th-13th August. The Yorkshire Wartime Experience brings you hundreds of military vehicles to see, as well as large-scale re-enactments, flybys from classic aircraft, stall, food, live entertainment and much more at this brilliant family-friendly day out.

Local businesses and makers from Haworth and Yorkshire come together to showcase unique arts and crafts at the Haworth Old School Room on Church Street from 12th-13th August for the Haworth Creatives Makers Market. Head over to shop for fantastic items, from homewares items to clothing.

Enjoy a selection of Shakespeare classics being performed outdoors across the district between 16th-28th August including The Tempest at Cliffe Castle Park, Romeo and Juliet at NT East Riddlesden Hall in Keighley and Hamlet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Ilkley Manor House and at the Ilkley Playhouse.

Explore the Denso Marston Nature Reserve in Baildon on Saturday, 19th August for a fairy tale extravaganza. As you walk through the reserve, listen to readings from classic Grimm fairy tales and discover how they differ from the versions you may know.

Celebrate the rivers and waterways of the Bradford district in Shipley on Sunday, 20th August with the Friends of Bradford’s Becks. Enjoy live music from the Two Rivers Swing Band, make your own boggart and discover the wildlife that call the rivers home for a fun day out for the whole family.


Over the Summer Bank Holiday Weekend

Rev your engine and ride down to the Shipley Harley Rally at the Baildon Rugby Club for three days of all things Harley Davidson from 25th-28th August. Join the big Saturday ride out, check out the bike show and enjoy fantastic live music and entertainment.

Join the 10th anniversary of the Baildon Walkers Are Welcome Walking Festival from 26th August-2nd September. This year’s festival includes 17 guided walks, dramatic performances, film screenings, workshops and more.

Visit Crickfest at the Cullingworth Cricket Club on Sunday, 27th August. This family-friendly music festival features a full day of brilliant live music, delicious street food, and plenty of performers roaming the grounds to delight visitors of all ages.


The summer is a great time for music and festivals and the Bradford district has plenty of both this August. The Bingley Weekender kicks things off at the Bradford and Bingley Rugby Club with Travis headlining a colossal line-up of incredible bands. The Bradford Punk Festival is set to rock the Underground and The Infest Festival will bring amazing electronic music acts not only to the Nightrain and The Exchange Craft Beer House, but also to St George’s Hall, over the August bank holiday weekend. Smooth jazz from the David Broad Trio will fill the Pickles Jazz Club in Baildon, Iain Matthews will select acoustic folk numbers to King’s Hall in Ilkley whilst Karen Jonas will explore classic Americana at Black Dyke Mills in Queensbury.
