This recognition ensures well-maintained trails and a warm welcome for walkers, making it easy to discover Bradford’s breathtaking countryside with confidence alongside experienced walkers.
Highlights Include
- Top Withens is a ruined farmhouse set among dramatic Pennine moorland near Haworth. It is said to have been the inspiration for Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. The ruin lies on the Pennine Way, a popular walking destination.
- High on Ilkley Moor the Cow and Calf Rocks are a large rock formation consisting of an outcrop and boulder, also known as Hangingstone Rocks. The rocks are a great place to climb and the moor offers spectacular views of Ilkley and beyond.
- Hewenden Viaduct an impressive viaduct standing 123 feet tall and spanning over 500m. The structure was originally built as part of the Great Northern Railway and is now a trail for cyclists and walkers.
- St. Ives Estate is a wonderful country park with woodlands and paths throughout. The Adventure Playground is a fantastic feature for the children, and Coppice Pond offers both fishing opportunities, and a chance to feed the ducks.
- The longest canal in Britain constructed as a single waterway is the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. With well-travelled towpath sections, the canal passes through Bingley, Saltaire, and Shipley.
