About
Join us for an exhilarating performance of Haydn’s The Creation, a work of staggering beauty and joyful celebration, brought to life by the combined forces of Bradford Festival Choral Society and the Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra.
Composed in the late 18th century, The Creation (Die Schöpfung) is widely regarded as Joseph Haydn’s crowning masterpiece. Inspired by the Book of Genesis and Milton’s Paradise Lost, the oratorio paints a vivid musical picture of the birth of the world - from the chaos before light, to the glorious emergence of sun, moon, stars, seas, animals, and humankind. With its majestic choruses, playful arias, and dramatic orchestral colour, The Creation captures both the grandeur of the cosmos and the delicate beauty of nature.
At the heart of this performance is Bradford Festival Choral Society; with a proud history dating back to 1856, the choir is known for its powerful, expressive singing and exciting programming. Recent audience feedback describes the choir as “electrifying… such passion and commitment” and praises their ability to create “moments of pure magic”.
They are joined by the Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra, a revitalised ensemble of top-tier professional musicians championing orchestral music across the region. The YSO has quickly won praise for its vibrant, accessible performances and its mission to represent Yorkshire on the classical stage.
Together, these exceptional forces promise an evening of sublime music-making, with Haydn’s glorious celebration of life and creation performed with the full force and richness it deserves. Whether you're a classical enthusiast or new to the concert hall, this is an experience that will uplift, inspire, and delight.
