About
Iron by Rona Munro Directed by Chrissie Poulter Presented as an amateur production by arrangement with Nick Hern Books
“Better this way, believe me. A surprise is a great idea but you may never know how it’ll work out. We don’t like the unexpected in here, any of us.”
Set within the confines of a women’s prison, Iron is a searing psychological drama that delves into memory, punishment, and the fractured bond between mother and daughter.
Josie visits her mother Fay for the first time in fifteen years—she’s never stepped inside a prison before, and for good reason. Fay is serving a life sentence for murdering her husband with a kitchen knife. Josie must confront the absence of memory surrounding that fateful night and the haunting question of why her mother committed such an act. Their shared past holds more danger than either of them expects.
Winner of the 2003 John Whiting Award, Iron is recommended for ages 14+ and contains strong language.
