About
Join modern quilter Lucy Norton for an introduction to quilting and create your own 30×30cm quilted table centrepiece to take home. Lucy began quilting in Spring 2020, inspired by modern quilters bringing clean lines and bright colour palettes to the craft, and she also loves the rich history behind quilting as an artform. Although new to quilting, she learned to sew young, studied Textile Design at college and Stage and Costume Design at university, and returned to sewing during lockdown using scraps and old clothes — the perfect start to quilting. She now sources her fabrics from local suppliers across Yorkshire and enjoys the waste‑free, eco‑friendly nature of using every scrap.
In this workshop you’ll work through every step of making a quilt: choosing fabrics and colours, selecting patterns, cutting accurately, piecing on the sewing machine, pressing seams, sandwiching your quilt top with batting and backing, quilting by hand and machine, trimming to square, and making and attaching your own binding with neat mitered corners. All equipment and materials are provided, but you’re welcome to bring any special fabrics you’d like to include.
