On Saturday 31st January at 4:30pm and 7pm, Bradford Cathedral will be holding two After Dark Experiences.

Visitors are invited to explore this stunning historic building by candlelight, with different areas illuminated by coloured lights and sound. There will be an introductory talk about the building from the Cathedral’s historian, who will also be on hand throughout the experience to answer any questions. Guests will then be free to self-tour the building at their own pace, experiencing it as never before.

People have been living and worshipping on Bradford Cathedral’s site for almost 1,400 years, and the After Dark Experience will be a chance to learn some of its story and get a glimpse of how it felt in the past.

Maggie Myers, Director of Education and Visitors said, "Come along to experience the building in a new way, with key features and areas illuminated whilst others are left in shadow. If you are familiar with the building, you will experience it as never before; if you have never visited Bradford Cathedral it will be a fascinating and intriguing experience in this stunning historic location.

Immerse yourself in this beautiful building that tells two stories: the Christian story dating all the way back to Anglo-Saxon times, and the Bradford story. The present church, the third on the site, was erected in the 14th/15th centuries, and contains older fragments from the previous church. It was extended in Victorian times and in the 1950s-1960s by the renowned Ilkley-born architect Sir Edward Maufe. The different styles from different time periods add to its character.

The stones, windows, features and memorials speak of past lives, past struggles and past achievements. You can enjoy the building at your leisure and our historian will be on hand if you wish to know more about what you are exploring.

Join us after dark to experience Bradford's very own Cathedral as never before.”

Numbers for this event are limited, so early booking is advised to avoid disappointment. Tickets are £10 each (+booking fee) and you can book your places at https://after-dark.eventbrite.co.uk, via the Bradford Cathedral website, or by calling the Cathedral office on 01274 77 77 20 (Mon-Thurs, 10am – 2:45pm).
