This festive period the National Science and Media Museum will be hosting an exciting programme of seasonal events. From a magical fairy trail to classic Christmas films and snowy science shows, there is something for all the family to enjoy.
The National Science and Media Museum and Pictureville Cinema have announced a full holiday programme, running from 6 December 2025 to 4 January 2026. The season offers activities for all ages, including a fairy trail centred around the Cottingley Fairies story, with the famous cameras now on display in the museum’s new Sound and Vision galleries, as well as live science shows, festive film favourites, craft activities and more.
Pictureville Cinema opens its festive season on 6 December with screenings of holiday classics including The Polar Express (2004) in IMAX 3D, The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992), Home Alone (1990), and Arthur Christmas (2011). Visitors can also enjoy festive food and drink offers throughout December.
From 13 December, families can explore a new fairy trail inspired by the famous Cottingley Fairies. Visitors can collect a trail booklet from the welcome desk and solve clues to find fairies hidden throughout the museum.
Also launching on 13 December is Winter Wonderlab, a high-energy live science show featuring fire, frost and flashing lights, performed daily at 11:30 and 14:00. Families can also take part in daily stop-motion animation workshops, where they can create their own mini winter movies inspired by festive favourites such as The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Polar Express and The Snowman. All family workshops, live shows and activities are included with free museum admission. Cinema tickets start from £3.
