Keighley Heritage Art Trail launches on Saturday, 11th October and runs until 17th November. The trail features vibrant paintings of Keighley architecture by beloved local artist Kev Bell. The paintings are displayed throughout Keighley town centre either in or near the historic buildings that inspired them.
Born and raised in Keighley, Bell has channelled his passion for his hometown into a fun collection of paintings depicting local landmarks. Some of the landmarks painted include The Picture House, Temperance Hall (now The Livery Rooms), Central Hall, Cavendish Street, and the Royal Arcade. Each artwork is filled with hidden details for visitors to discover – from famous Keighley natives to local characters from Bell's youth, plus a signature ladybird concealed within every painting.
"Kev's paintings capture not just our beautiful buildings, but the spirit and stories of Keighley itself," said Helen Robertshaw, manager at Keighley BID "This is a wonderful opportunity for residents and visitors to explore and learn about the heritage of Keighley town centre."
Each painting location features historical notes written by historian Eddie Kelly, providing visitors with fascinating insights into Keighley's past. Trail participants can test their knowledge by answering questions on the back of the art trail map for a chance to win shopping vouchers.
Launch Event and Activities
The trail launches with a free family-friendly art workshop on Saturday, 11th October, from 11am to 3pm in the Airedale Centre's events zone (next to Costa Coffee). The workshop welcomes artists of all ages and abilities.
Runing alongside the art trail is an age banded art competition open to all. There will be prizes available for each age category and winning artwork to be featured on Keighley BID’s website.
Trail Information
The paintings will be displayed in local businesses in or close to the scene of the painting. Trail maps and full details of painting locations are available on the Keighley BID website under the Visit Keighley section: https://keighleybid.com/keighley-heritage-art-trail/
The trail runs from 11th October to 17th November 2024.
Keighley BID (trail organisers) extend special thanks to artist Kev Bell for his generous contribution, Eddie Kelly for his interesting historical notes, the businesses hosting paintings and to Keighley Town Council for sponsoring the printing of trail maps.
