Haworth’s Award-Winning Bookshop, Wave of Nostalgia, is looking forward to entertaining book-loving customers with a really busy October, featuring six author events, a Bookshop Day celebration and culminating in a chillingly seasonal ‘Friday Fright Night’ in the cellar on Halloween Eve.
The month kicks off as normal 0n Saturday 4th October when everyone is invited to join the monthly LGBTQ+ group which is meeting at 11.30 to discuss books, chat, drink coffee & eat Halloween cookies.
On Thursday 9th at 7PM, Bradford’s Marcia Hutchinson and Kate Griffin, the two authors jointly known as Lila Cain will be talking about The Blackbirds of St Giles, their brilliant book about an essential and forgotten piece of our history. It features devious plots, secret pasts and forbidden futures and is ‘gritty and thrilling, with vivid and unforgettable characters"
Two days later, Saturday (11th) is UK Bookshop Day which we will be celebrating with giveaways for all customers including tote bags, bookmarks, stickers and the ever-popular ‘mystery’ books,
On Wednesday 15th at 7PM, Wave of Nostalgia will host a welcome return to the author of our single biggest-selling book, Stephanie Shields. Author of Strange Woman, she will be launching her brand-new novel After Amba. The life of Amba Atha, travel & fashion writer and ‘New Woman’, spans the first half of the twentieth century and is a tale about women, love and sexuality and the power of the past over the present.
There is something special for young people on Saturday 25th at 2PM with Danielle Brown, a double Paralympic gold medallist, five time World Champion and award-winning children's author. Her new book draws on stories from inspiring athletes, as well as Danielle's own gold-medal-winning experiences (including the hiccups along the way), Shoot for the Stars gives practical examples of how to overcome obstacles, find the courage to dig deep and discover sporting success on your terms - whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out!
Marcia Hutchinson is back with us at 7PM on Thursday 30th talking about The Mercy Step, her sharply-witted and tender portrait of a young girl’s quiet rebellion and their refusal to be broken. It is based on her own extraordinary childhood in Bradford
Completing the programme is a gothic and ghoulish event to be held in our spooky cellar on All Hallow’s Eve at 7PM. It features ghost stories, gothic tales, folk horror, and the strange magic of writing the eerie and otherworldly. Expect chilling readings from authors Katherine Clements (The Coffin) & Michael Stewart (Black Wood Women), classic ghost stories, and a candlelit journey into the darker corners of fiction. There will also be free tarot readings from Sharon Lambert from Spooks Occult Bookshop. Come if you dare!
