Members of the Book Group at Haworth’s award-winning Independent Bookshop Wave of Nostalgia had an incredible surprise at this month’s meeting when they were joined by multi-million selling author Kate Mosse CBE. One of Britain’s favourite novelists, Kate introduced the book under discussion, ‘A Girl is a Half-formed Thing’ by Eimear McBride which won the Women’s Prize for Fiction. Diane Park, owner of Wave of Nostalgia said “Since Kate visited us to help launch her novels ‘The Ghost Ship’ then ‘Map of Bones’ we have built a really good relationship with her. When I mentioned that our Book Group was working our way through the past winners of The Women’s Prize for Fiction of which she is founder Director, she asked if she could join in one of our meetings. It’s a real honour – especially as she’s such a leader in promoting women’s writing. We’re also really pleased that she has just chosen us as one of only a few bookshops to take preorders on her new book ‘Feminist History for Every Day of the Year’”

There is plenty more to get excited about in the next month at the shop, too…

The month kicks off as normal on Saturday 6th September when everyone is invited to join the monthly LGBTQ+ group which is meeting at 11.30 to chat, drink coffee & decide a date for Haworth Pride 2026.

The following day, Sunday 7th, the team behind the children’s ‘Gina Kaminski’ picture books will be at the shop. In the morning, Illustrator Francis Martin will be painting the windows with a giant beanstalk and after lunch author Craig Barr-Green will read from the books and tell us all about Gina, his inspirational autistic hero who adores stories like Red Riding Hood and Jack & the Beanstalk, but particularly loves to retell them her own special way. It’s a free event.

On Thursday 25th at 7PM, Wave of Nostalgia will host a visit from bestselling Crime/Thriller writer Ruth Mancini. She will be reading from and discussing her new thought-provoking, compelling and, at times, heart-breaking novel The Day I Lost You.  It’s a brilliantly twisty thriller novel featuring one child, two mothers and a past that won't let them go.

Completing the programme is an event with multi award-winning author and musician Kerry Andrew at 7PM on Weds 1st October. We are Together Because is her third novel. It is a coming-of-age novel with a twist – it is set on the eve of a totally unexpected global catastrophe where survival becomes a priority and asks us what is truly important in life, and how far we've strayed from our place in the natural world.

Wave of Nostalgia owner, Diane Park adds it’s been a sizzling Summer and we are looking forward to entertaining you right through Autumn into the Winter months, with events for you to attend in person but also on Zoom. Thanks to everyone who is part of our book loving community

More details of the events to be held at Wave of Nostalgia, 74 Main Street, Haworth BD22 8DP or on Zoom can be found in the shop or online here: https://waveofnostalgia.co.uk/pages/events
