Haworth Pride

Haworth is getting ready for ‘Love and Rainbows’ as preparations get into in full swing for Haworth’s first ever Pride – and the excitement has been given a boost with the news that one of the UK’s foremost cookery bloggers Dominic Franks @dominthekitchen will be demonstrating his skills and joining in the fun…

From Weds 25th to Sunday 29th June events will be held throughout the village. Eight events from poetry to picnics and choirs to disco are planned.

Kicking things off at 7PM on Wednesday 25th at Wave of Nostalgia will be Christine Sanders who will be performing poems from her ‘Women’ collections about Halifax’s ‘Gentleman Jack’ - Anne Lister - and Anne’s tempestuous relationships with the many women in her life.

The following evening at 7PM, again at Wave of Nostalgia, a talented young Yorkshire poet - Kane Crookes - will read from their collection ‘Blooming Us’ - Poetic readings leading through Gothic themes of love and loss to the beauty of nature:  Fruit, flowers & countryside from nature to supernature

On Friday 27th at 7PM Haworth Cinema at the Baptist Centre on West Lane will be showing the award-winning movie ‘Pride’, a star-studded historical comedy-drama based on a true story of a group of LGBTQ activists who raised money to help families affected by the Miners' strike. Tickets are £5 on the door

The big day is Saturday 28th when Haworth Main Street will be decorated with rainbows in many forms – from flags large and small to bunting to crochet to cakes and biscuits. In the morning there is a free event in West Lane Baptist Centre where there will be a café, creative stalls and music from the Gay Abandon Choir and also vocalist Matt Monroe. From there the action switches to Haworth Central Park - with a potential detour to Wave of Nostalgia on Main Street where at 1PM Dominic Franks will be chatting about his cooking blog, everything upside down cookery (including a demonstration) and signing copies of his debut cookery book. Back at Haworth Park from Noon there will be a disco at the bandstand followed by further performances from Gay Abandon Choir and Matt Monroe. Bring a picnic and your dancing shoes! If the weather is wet, we will all go back to West Lane Baptist Church for the afternoon events and we might even see a real rainbow!

On Sunday Rev. Andrew Howarth from Menston will be taking the 10:30 celebration service with an LGBTQ+ focus at West Lane Baptist then there will be cake and refreshments afterwards

Wave of Nostalgia owner, Diane Park says “You may know that we have an LGBTQ+ coffee morning the first Saturday of every month. Earlier this year one of our friends told us of a bad experience she had when walking with her wife in Haworth. Our group decided we needed to spread some love and rainbows and Haworth’s First Pride Event was born! Do come and spread the joy, it will be so much fun, looking forward to seeing you”
