One of the reasons Wave of Nostalgia in Haworth was named North of England’s Best Independent Bookshop 2024 was the great range of community, educational and fun activities it organises. It has one of it's best ever schedules of events planned for June, leading up to Independant Bookshop Week towards the end of the month.

The month kicks off at 7PM on Thursday 6th June with an event celebrating that most ferocious of Chieftains, Britain’s own Boudica. Archaeologist and storyteller Duncan Mackay will read from Echolands, his acclaimed new history of the scourge of the Romans. On the same evening, owner Diane Park and Cat Crossley of Clavis & Claustra will launch their ‘Herstorian Society Gift Box’ featuring Boudica.

On the following day Wave of Nostalgia hosts a sold-out event featuring Bronte Parsonage Curator Ann Dinsdale plus author Sharon Wright talking about their new project – ‘The Brontes in Bricks and Mortar’.

On the evening of Weds 12th, one of Ireland’s best young writers, Molly Aitken, will be in  the village launching her latest historical feminist novel, Bright I burn. Inspired by the first recorded person in Ireland to have been condemned as a witch, Bright I Burn gives voice to a woman lost to history, who dared to carve her own space in a man's world.

Independent Bookshop Week celebrations start at 7PM on Friday 14th with Diane Park and Cat Crossley hosting a further session in their informative series on starting your own small business. Throughout the week there will be an extra special offer in the shop – a free book lucky dip for all book purchasers while stocks last. The event will be rounded off on Saturday 22nd by two book signings at 2PM with Yorkshire born debut author Emily Usher of her hypnotic Wild Ground, an achingly tender novel of first love and second chances and Illustrator/author Susannah Lloyd launching her hilarious children’s picture book on the ‘circle of life’ ‘Who ate Steve?’

The final event in June is on Wednesday 26th at 7PM when Comedian and Author Kate Fox will present from Where there’s Muck there’s Bras, her funny and eye-opening journey through the lives of extraordinary Northern women whose lives and achievements have too long been hidden.

Wave of Nostalgia owner Diane Park is really looking forward to a fantastic month. She says “We’ve put together events that we hope people from round here of all ages will find interesting and entertaining”.  She adds “For anyone who can’t make it to Haworth for the events, most will also be shared on on Zoom
