On Tuesday, 10th October at 7PM, Irish/Norwegian author Anya Bergman will be appearing at Cobbles & Clay in Main Street, Haworth reading from her latest historical thriller The Witches of Vardo.
“Norway, 1662. A dangerous time to be a woman, when even dancing can lead to accusations of witchcraft. Adulteress Zigri and Anna Rhodius, once the King of Denmark's mistress have been sent in disgrace to the island of Vardo. However, these Witches of Vardo are stronger than even the King. In an age weighted against them, they refuse to be victims. They will have their justice. All they need do is show their power.”
Wave of Nostalgia, finalist in the regional Independent Bookshop of the Year and ‘High Street Heroes’ award, is themed on Strong Women. Owner Diane Park is really looking forward to welcoming Anya to the Main Street of Haworth. She says “The Witches of Vardo is a timeless novel about prejudice, misogyny, freedom and the power and strength we can find within ourselves. It has lessons for all of us even today. It’s going to be great to find out what Anya’s motivation was and how she made women accused of Witchcraft in Norway almost 400 years ago so relevant to us now”.
