July is here! Summer is in full swing, the kids will soon be out of school, and there are loads of great adventures to be had in the Bradford district. Here is just a taster of the great events coming up this month.

Ilkley Pride kicks off the month at King’s Hall on Saturday, 1st July. This brilliant day is packed with workshops, delicious food, competitions and plenty of live entertainment from some of the best Pride acts on the circuit.

Head out for a day of full-on fun at the Wrose Carnival on Saturday, 1st July at the Wrose Recreational Ground in Shipley. Enjoy loads of great activities throughout the day including a parade, a dog show, a funfair and a classic car show.

This year marks the 45th anniversary of the Oxenhope Straw Race. The competition starts on Sunday, 2nd July in Oxenhope, where teams in fancy dress will race through the village carrying a bale of straw between six pubs. The race is great fun to watch (and you might even be inspired to compete next year).

Visit Salts Mill in Saltaire on Tuesday, 4th July and attend BiBFest, one of the biggest research festivals in the UK.  Listen to panels, explore virtual reality, see dance performances and more all about how our environment affects and can improve our lives.

Discover unique wares at the Summer Makers’ Fair visit the Ilkley Manor House on 8th-9th July.  In the lovely courtyard of the Manor House, you can buy everything from jewellery and ceramics to garden furniture and textiles.

The Bradford Curry Mela returns on 8th-9th July in Lister Park, Bradford. This free event is full of arts and crafts, music, entertainment and lots of stalls serving up delicious curries. It’s a great day out for the whole family.

Get on your bike for a full day of cycling at the Brontë Sportive on Sunday, 16th July. The 6 themed routes offer something for all levels of riders, from 21 miles to a 92-mile route for the hard-core cyclist.

Enjoy a family day out with all the fun of the seaside at ‘Shipley by the Sea’ on Saturday, 22nd July. With free shows, roving entertainment, workshops and games to get involved in, it’s set to be a fantastic day in the heart of Shipley!

The worlds of Fantasy Kingdom hit the streets of Bradford on 22nd July-6th August with the return of BrickLive. This year’s fantasy-themed brick creations can be found throughout the city centre. One of them might even be hiding inside the Bradford Visitor Information Centre….

Celebrate the British summer with free family activities at Bradford Cathedral on Tuesday 25th July. Kids will love crafting and colouring, whilst parents can enjoy a fascinating guided tour of the cathedral.

Seek out some of the district’s most wonderful and elusive residents at the Denso Marston Nature Reserve in Baildon on Friday, 28th July. Ian Butterfield will lead a bat walk around the reserve in the evening to observe these incredible creatures as they fly off into the night.

Experience the fantastic BD:Festival on 28th-29th July. Over the two days, amazing events will take place throughout the city centre of Bradford, including the Moves music festival at Kala Sangam, Bussing out at Bradford University and the new dance experience Rush at City Park. This free event is not to be missed.

Enjoy a tongue-in-cheek celebration of all things Yorkshire in Keighley on Saturday, 29th July. This year’s Yorkshire Day event will feature tug-o-war contests, birds of prey, rides, shows, competitions and much more. It’ll be a reet grand time.

Get set for a summer of spectacular shows at the district’s theatres. The Alhambra Theatre in Bradford will be hosting two fantastic musicals in Annie and Heathers. Kala Sangam will explore the life of the king in new show Elvis Died of Burgers. A Lovesong takes place on stage at the Ilkley Playhouse, whilst St George’s Hall, Bradford invites you to attend An Evening of Burlesque. Meanwhile, the Bingley Little Theatre hosts a Comedy Club full of hilarious stand-up, and Shakespeare classic A Midsummer Night’s Dream is being performed at Bradford Cathedral.

Music fans are spoiled for choice in July, starting with the sensational tributes Mamma Mania at the Tapestry Arts Centre in Tong and P!nk Live at Kings Hall in Ilkley. St George’s Hall in Bradford will host the exceptional Sufiyana Kalaam and Tickles Music Hall welcomes Elishama. Sensational Indian band Raghu Dixit plays at the Live Room in Saltaire and Donald MacKenzie tickles the keys of the Saltaire Wurlitzer in the Victoria Hall.
