On Monday 19th December the annual City Carol Service will take place, featuring the Lord Mayor Councillor Martin Love; Deputy Lieutenant Vicky Reynolds; and other civic dignitaries. The service will include music from the Bradford Cathedral Choir and City of Bradford Brass Band, who will be conducted by guest Musical Director Leigh Baker BA (hons) PGCE.

The event, which starts at 6pm, also includes congregational carols including Once in Royal David’s City and O Come All Ye Faithful, as well as seasonal readings. Musical highlights include Gaudete, Little Drummer Boy, and The First Nowell, which will be a flugel & baritone duet.

Entry to the service is free but booking in advance is recommended via the Bradford Cathedral website or by calling the Cathedral office to guarantee you a seat. Over 380 seats have already been confirmed so please book early to avoid disappointment.

The service will conclude with refreshments of hot drinks, mince pies and sherry.

Councillor Martin Love, Lord Mayor of Bradford, says: “The Annual City Carol Service is always one of the highlights of the year. I am delighted that we are able to once again gather together at the beautiful Bradford Cathedral to share the joy and wonder of this special time in the run up to Christmas.

John Mallinson, Band Manager of the City of Bradford Brass Band, says: “The City of Bradford Brass are once again delighted to have been invited to perform at the City Carol Service in the wonderful setting of Bradford Cathedral. We have an amazing programme of traditional Christmas music and some more contemporary pieces to really get everyone in the spirit of Christmas. We are also looking forward to accompanying the whole congregation and the supremely talented Bradford Cathedral Choir”.

For 2022, the Church of England’s theme is ‘Follow The Star – The Great Invitation’ – andBradford Cathedral and Bradford Council would like to invite you to the City Carol Service - following the star that is now lit up in the Cathedral’s tower.
