Victoria Preston – author of ‘We Are Pilgrims’ - comes to Bradford Cathedral on Tuesday 18th October to join the Bishop of Bradford, the Rt Revd Toby Howarth, in conversation all about the topic of pilgrimage.
Together they will discuss the topic of pilgrimage and what drives so many of us to undertake such journeys, either as an expression of faith, gratitude, kinship, or in search of solace or enlightenment.
They will also encourage members of the audience to bring insights on pilgrimages they have made, and any thoughts they might have on pilgrim journeys they are planning.
Victoria Preston says:
“From the Stone Age to the New Age, pilgrimage has proved to be an enduring expression of faith, of hope, of gratitude. Or the search for solace, enlightenment, liberation from the everyday.
“At this event, I hope we can explore together what drives people of all faiths to undertake these journeys.”
The Rt Revd Toby Howarth, Bishop of Bradford, says:
“The extraordinary scenes we witnessed over the mourning period for Her Late Majesty, as thousands queued, walking miles with strangers to pay their respects, showed us the abiding relevance and power of pilgrimage. I look forward to this conversation with Victoria and hope that many will join us for it!”
The talk – which begins at 7pm – will be preceded by refreshments at 6:30pm. Everyone is also welcome to come along at 5:30pm for Choral Evensong, and there will be a chance to explore the Cathedral’s current exhibition (Peter Marlow – The English Cathedral) – which documents the photographer’s own pilgrimage to take photos of the naves of all 42 English Cathedrals at dawn.
Copies of ‘We Are Pilgrims’ by Victoria Preston will also be available to buy from the Cathedral.
