World Heritage Day

About

World Heritage Day is to celebrate Saltaire’s UNESCO World Heritage Site status, by attracting visitors to explore and find out more.  Saltaire is one of the earliest, largest and most complete industrial model villages in the world.  The World Heritage Site includes Salts Mill, Roberts Park, the United Reformed Church, Victoria Hall, Salt School (now Shipley College), a hospital (now flats), shops (up to Bingley Road) and 850 houses all designed in Italianate style.  World Heritage Day is held in April every year, around the world.  It aims to increase awareness of the diversity of cultural heritage and preserving it for future generations to promote peace.

The theme of the day is 'Heritage, Community and Environment' and comprises events in Roberts Park, canal side and buildings/sites in Saltaire Village itself. There will be a full programme of music on the bandstand in Roberts Park, events and exhibitions in various buildings/sites, some guided walks and a finale of an after-dark lantern parade from Cecil Green Arts.
