About
By Ahmed Masoud | Directed by Julie Domaille | Performed by Jan Thomas An Ilkley Playhouse Fringe Production Presented by arrangement with Oberon Books Limited
Hajja Souad, an 80‑year‑old Palestinian woman in Gaza, has survived decades of war and oppression by building a business both practical and grim: making shrouds for the dead.
This one‑woman black comedy reveals the intimate world of ordinary Palestinians, blending satire with true stories told directly to the writer.
Loosely inspired by a real figure still living in Gaza, The Shroud Maker offers an apolitical, vivid portrait of resilience on the front lines of history.
Performed in Ilkley Playhouse’s Wildman Studio, it is timely, haunting, and sharply witty.
