About
Two for the price of one! Michael Carter & Mark Speight join us on 14th June at 2.30pm for the first of three joint concerts on the Victoria Hall Saltaire Wurlitzer this year, a chance to hear two familiar faces from the UK theatre organ circuit sharing the console for an entertaining afternoon.
A professional railwayman, Michael Carter comes from the West Midlands and plays a broad mix of theatre organ favourites. He enjoys finding less familiar repertoire to keep things interesting, and he also serves as editor of Cinema Organ, the quarterly journal of the Cinema Organ Society and Midlands District Secretary.
Mark Speight has longstanding connections with Blackpool, where he began playing the Tower Ballroom Wurlitzer just two days after his sixteenth birthday. He went on to build a solid following on the concert circuit and became a regular on BBC Radio 2's The Organist Entertains, before stepping away for a number of years to pursue a career in accountancy. He has returned to performing with a fresh programme and plenty of enthusiasm. Between them they offer a varied and enjoyable afternoon on the iconic Wurlitzer.
There will be light refreshments, and you can visit the organ chambers below stage to see the nearly 1000 pipes and percussions.
There is level access from Lockwood Street (via lift) and the hall is only a few minutes’ walk from Saltaire railway station.
