The 2026 BFI FAN UK-wide season explores and celebrates the changing face of youth rebellion, culture and expression—from joy to heartbreak—on screen in the UK. 

Youth culture in the UK has a wide and varied history, from the defiant rebellion of Teddy Boys, mods and rockers and the many activist movements that have shaped our society to hedonistic self-expression in the music and fashion scenes and the emotional rollercoaster that simply is being a teenager – all of which have been portrayed on screen in a multitude of ways.

Starting this September Pictureville is celebrating Rip It Up with a season of films that look at the ways young women have shaped and experienced youth culture through music, fashion, friendship, rebellion and identity. Including beloved independent releases like Scrapper and Rocks as well as a screening of Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging which is free to attend when you sign up to our free community membership scheme. 6 September 2026 | Rocks (12A)
An acclaimed drama following teenager Rocks as she tries to keep her family together when she and her younger brother are left to fend for themselves.

17 September 2026 | Free Members' Screening: Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging (12A)

18 September 2026 | Polite Society (12A)
A vibrant action-comedy celebrating sisterhood, family expectations and youthful determination.

18 October 2026 | Young Soul Rebels (15) (Classic Sundays)
Isaac Julien's landmark British drama exploring race, identity and youth culture in 1970s London.
