About
Celebrate J.B. Priestley’s birthday with Bradford poet and stand-up historian Glyn Watkins on a lively walking tour through the city he knew. Hear performed extracts on trams, fountains, beer, wool and wartime Bradford.
Following on from ‘Pie & Priestley - celebrating J.B. Priestley’s birthday & a Bradford meat & potato pie that defied Hitler’ at Napoleons Casino on 12 September, this special perambulation takes place the following day - Sunday 13 September, J.B. Priestley’s actual birthday. The walk begins at 14:00 at Priestley’s Statue, outside the Science & Media Museum, and will finish at North Parade approximately an hour later.
Along the route, Glyn will stop at locations connected to Priestley and his Bradford, sharing pieces that explore the city’s history and character - including its trams, fountains, beer, wool trade and the German community that Priestley described as giving the Bradford of his youth a “cultural leaven”. The walk will also visit the site of a Bradford pie shop that survived wartime bombing, where Glyn will perform part of one of Priestley’s wartime broadcasts.
Meet at J.B. Priestley’s Statue, outside the Science & Media Museum. Please arrive ready for a 14:00 start. The guided walk will finish at North Parade approximately one hour later.
