About
Needle felt some festive spirit into pre-loved knitwear and accessories – a whole new take on Christmas jumpers & winter woolies!
Yorkshire textile artist Jessica shares her passion for creating wearable art, using needle felting to breathe new life into pre-loved jumpers and knitted accessories. During this hands-on workshop you will learn how to needle-felt your design onto your garment, with easy to follow instructions to wet-felt-finish your project at home.
For your design, you don’t have to have an idea before you come along. Jessica will provide plenty of inspiration. However, if you do have a specific design in mind, brilliant! Don’t get too carried away, though, as larger designs do take a very long time to complete.
Apart from the pre-loved knitwear you bring along, materials and equipment are provided. For needle felting, Jessica uses carded sheep wool or bamboo/flax and sources this second-hand as well as making it herself from second-hand textiles.
Here are samples created by Jessica and a Mrs Duttons Wondrous Workshop class earlier this year by crafters with no previous experience.
If you don’t have anything in your wardrobe that’s suitable for up-cycling, charity shops are a great place to find jumpers and knitted accessories. This can be a scarf, jumper, cushion cover or cardigan. The more natural the fibre, the better the felting will be but we can work with man-made fibres too. If it has holes in it, great! We can fix them up during the process.
