About
Join Cantores Olicanae for a programme of music inspired by the Feast of the Annunciation
Ave Maria is a programme of music written in homage to the Virgin Mary from 16 th - 21 st centuries.
Our programme is about peace tranquility and wonder. We include well known pieces such as Rachmaninoff's 'Bogoroditse Dyevo' (Ave Maria) and 'Totus Tuus' by the Polish composer Gorecki
The central work is Cecilia Mcdowall’s “ Ave Maris Stella” .(Hail Star of the Sea) which bears the dedication ‘Pro
Pace’, for peace. This was composed after the horrific events of 11 th September 2001 and forms a simple peace anthem using words from a popular medieval Hymn.
Come and enjoy these beautiful moving pieces which celebrate Mary as a guiding star in this troubled world.
