Three dancers in motion on a stage

About

Following the award-winning success of the dance film Catch The Bird Who Won’t Fly, Amina Khayyam Dance Company brings the stage sequel, BIRD, to Bradford Arts Centre. BIRD is a powerful and high-energy Kathak dance performance that explores the journey of women seeking a new beginning.

The piece starts with a “silent scream,” capturing the courage it takes to leave an abusive situation and the vulnerability of stepping into the unknown. Developed through workshops with local women’s community groups, the performance tackles the social stigma and cultural pressures faced by those who break free.

It asks a vital question: what happens to a woman after she runs away? The choreography is set to a specially commissioned live score featuring the tabla, cello, and sitar, weaving together a story of resilience, hope, and the strength found in starting over.
