A tour of the cemetery on the 3rd August will reveal some of Bradford’s bravest men in history who were awarded the Victoria Cross. Matthew Hughes was one of the first men to be given this award by Queen Victoria who leaned down from her horse and pinned it to his chest.

He risked his life to save his comrades during the Crimean War where many also died from neglect and disease. This was the war when many men rode to their death during the charge of Light Brigade and Florence Nightingale tended to the sick and injured soldiers.

Please meet at the Lodge, Undercliffe Lane, Bradford.

Tea, coffee and biscuits available at the lodge from 09:30 - Tour starts at 10:00am

There is also a Family History event in the afternoon including a Flora/Fauna and Wildlife tour.

This tour is part of the Undercliffe cemetery open day, call at any time between 12:30 and 16:00 and stay as long as you like! A chance to trace your ancestors with help from our volunteers. See separate listing.

Preferred parking: Undercliffe Lane, Car Park.
