Details

Impressions Gallery is delighted to announce Open Out, a year-long programme bringing photography to the streets of Bradford.

Over the next 12 months, Open Out will bring four innovative contemporary photography exhibitions, each on display for three months, to the streets of Bradford for everyone to see and enjoy.

The first outdoor exhibition features eight powerful portraits from Being Inbetween, by award-winning Bradford based photographer Carolyn Mendelsohn. Presented as a series of compelling, large-scale photographs, the exhibition can be seen on the windows of the Grade II* listed former NatWest bank building on the busy pedestrianised corner of Hustlergate and Bank Street. Standing at nearly three metres tall, these are some of the largest photographs ever seen in the city centre.

Being Inbetween is a series of powerful photographic portraits of girls aged between ten and twelve. The photographs, made in collaboration with the young people, explore the transition between childhood and young adulthood. The eight girls featured are Heavens, Amaira, Alice, Gowri, Alice, Sadie, Kiara and Mabel who all live in the Bradford district. These ‘inbetween girls’ are amazing, fearless, fearful, brave, funny, and smart individuals, getting ready to take on the world.

Open Out has been made possible thanks to ArtFund ‘Respond and Reimagine’ funding, and has been supported by Bradford BID.
