The Lit Festival Summer Fringe is back! Come and watch local Yorkshire creatives perform in a range of artforms in the atmospheric courtyard of Ilkley Manor House, including poetry, music, comedy improv and spoken word. There will be five evenings of outdoor performances taking place on Thursdays from 6.30pm, running from 28 July to 25 August.
4th August
Rhubarb @The Triangle: Readings from Seconds, the sophomore anthology from Rhubarb @The Triangle, published to celebrate the popular Shipley open mic’s 50th event.
Anita Simic: Inspiration: where does it come from? Silly rhymes and serious sonnets all start with a thought. Here are some of Anita’s.
Otley Troubadours read from The Walrus Said.
11th August
Wharfedale Poets: COVID turned everything upside down. Are we on the other side yet? Look at all sides with the Wharfedale Poets.
Alex Callaghan is a non-binary poet from Yorkshire, specialising in wit and whimsy. Laughing is encouraged but not mandatory.
Spoke Poetry Hub is back with their Sisterhood event. Four incredible performers sharing that sisterhood energy through poetry, featuring Zara Sehar, Ella Sanderson, Caitlin Mckenna & Gracie Spandler.
18th August
Barbara Howerska, born in Bradford, celebrates diversity and local characters, telling the story of the changes, challenging perceptions with up front poetry.
Bring Me Sunshine Trio is an Ilkley-based social enterprise using strings and song for well-being, playing a mix of classical, folk and popular music using string trio, voices, guitar and percussion.
Chalk and Cheese: Thought-provoking observations (mostly geological) or just plain silliness (with added cheesy rhymes). Two poets as different as Chalk and Cheese.
25th August
Ilkley Young Writers Anthology: To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Young Writers, members, alumni and workshop leaders have joined together to contribute to an anthology, Words Hanging Off Trees. Join them to hear excerpts and get your copy of the anthology at this launch event.
Join Made Up Improv for games and sketches made up of your suggestions, their imagination and a dollop of Yorkshire wit.
Charlotte and Bek – vocal harmony and song-writing duo.
