Wed 11 Aug - Sun 19 Sep Simon Palmer: Yorkshire Perspective
Fri 10 - Sun 19 Sep Felt by Claire Tindale

The biggest ever retrospective of the work of Simon Palmer, one of Britain’s leading watercolour artists. Yorkshire Perspective will trace the artist’s journey through his work from 1980-2017.

Considered to be a visionary painter, Palmer’s connection with his much-loved Wensleydale home and the world of his imagination is unfettered by current trends and opinions. From the apparently familiar, he creates illusions which hover on the brink of reality. “Like other British artists before me, I draw a spiritual connection from the land in a specific place, offering my personal perspective on the narrow lanes, railway bridges, drystone walls and winding fencing, stone churches and farms, ancient trees, new saplings and distant moors of the Yorkshire Dales,” he says. “I’m inspired by specific locations but I don’t paint it as a real place, it’s more about capturing the spirit and atmosphere rather than an accurate portrayal.
