Details
'Contemplating Hope' is a new work by ceramist Layla Khoo. Specially commissioned for the Brontë Parsonage Museum, it features a series of carefully crafted ceramic vessels into which visitors are invited to post a slip of paper containing their hopes and dreams for the future.
The work is a creative response to the diary papers of Anne and Emily Brontë. The sisters would write their aspirations for the future on scraps of paper which they would store in a cash box and only revisit after four years. A selection of these diary papers will also be on display as part of the exhibition.
'Contemplating Hope', which was originally planned for 2020, has taken on a new meaning since the pandemic, with a focus on the future at the forefront of so many minds.
Layla Khoo is a multimedia 3D artist specialising in ceramics and site specific installations. Her work is responsive - responding to ideas, events or collections of objects. Layla's recent work includes installations at Dalby Forest, Whitby Museum and at Nunnington Hall for the National Trust.
