The National Science and Media Museum’s summer programme features free drop-in activities for all ages—from science shows and gallery talks to animation workshops and a family trail. Families are encouraged to join in together. Booking is recommended during busy times.

Summer at the Museum: What’s On:

Science Shows – Wonderlab Studio, Level 3 Daily 30-minute shows on light, sound and invention, with live experiments. No booking required; arrive 10 mins early during peak times. Ear defenders available.

Science on a Sphere – Wonderlab, Level 3 15-minute space-themed visual journey across the solar system on a giant globe. Learn surprising planetary facts and features.

Family Animation Workshops – MakeSpace, Level 4 Daily, 10:00–16:00. Stop-motion storytelling based on gallery discoveries. Staff assist with creative and technical guidance.

Show and Tell: Explainer Edition – Sound and Vision Galleries, Levels 3 & 5 Daily, 10:00–16:00. Spontaneous 10-minute talks from Explainers on gallery highlights and curiosities.

Sound and Vision Family Trail – Collect at Front Desk Self-led activity trail encouraging family discussion and interaction across new galleries.

Special Event: ReelBFD activities, running from 30 July to 3 September 2025 as part of the museum's special events programme, invite visitors to immerse themselves in a vibrant world of technology, creativity and imagination through free, hands-on workshops.

Cinema Screenings Kids’ Club – £3 tickets on Saturdays and Sundays at 11.00. PG or U-rated films; Sundays are relaxed and autism-friendly. Superhero Summer – Extra Kids’ Club screenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays featuring heroes like Mulan, Puss in Boots and Black Panther. Films rated U, PG or 12A. CineMinis – For under-7s, every other Friday at 11.30am. Short films (under 60 mins) with characters like The Gruffalo and Bluey. IMAX 45s – New releases Ocean Paradise and Superhuman Body. deliver big-screen excitement in just 45 minutes.
