We’re thrilled to announce that internationally acclaimed theatre organist Simon Gledhill will be featured in our next concert at the famous Victoria Hall Saltaire Wurlitzer pipe organ.
Born in Halifax, Simon won the Northern Young Theatre Organist of the Year in 1982 and was soon recording for BBC Radio 2’s ‘The Organist Entertains’. He became the first recipient of the Cinema Organ Society’s Ian Sutherland Award and was later named American Theatre Organ Society Organist of the Year in 1997, joining their Hall of Fame in 2016.
Simon has toured internationally taking his talents to Europe, America, Australia, and New Zealand, enchanting audiences with his unique blend of musical expertise and charismatic stage presence.
In addition to his live performances, Simon has released several albums showcasing his remarkable talent and versatility, allowing fans to enjoy his music in the comfort of their own homes. His dedication to the theatre organ community extends beyond performance; he is actively involved in preservation efforts, ensuring that these historic instruments are maintained for future generations to appreciate.
As he prepares for his upcoming concert at Victoria Hall, Simon promises an unforgettable programme that will include beloved classics alongside contemporary pieces, appealing to a wide range of musical tastes.
Refreshments will be served (donations welcome), and visitors can go below the stage to see the organ chambers which house nearly 1000 pipes and percussions. There is level access via the Lockwood Street entrance and a lift. Don’t miss this chance to hear one of the finest ambassadors of the art form in concert!
