About

Returning due to popular demand, Roisin Ban is a Celtic folk trio playing a mix of mainly traditional Irish and Scottish folk songs and tunes. This accomplished, professional band is well respected on the UK folk scene, having performed at numerous folk festivals in the UK, including their annual fixture at the Whitby Folk Week where they play for the set dance night as well as other concerts. Roisin Ban means White Rose in the Irish language.

This talented trio are:

Gordon Tyrrall on flute, guitar and vocals - Gordon is a superb solo folk artiste in his own right. He has been a professional folk musician for several decades, with a successful solo career as well as having been in numerous bands including the brilliant `Dab Hand` in the 80s alongside Tom McConville & Tom Napper. Dab Hand were a headline band at folk festivals across the UK and beyond.

Paddy Heffron on button accordion, vocals and sean nos dance (old style Irish dance).Paddy is a first-generation Irishman living in Leeds. He has been involved in Leeds Comhaltas for many decades and has competed at the All Ireland Fleadhs on numerous occasions. His family home is in Co Tipperary.

Chris Dyson on fiddle, mandola and vocals - Chris is from an Irish family background and lived in Co Mayo for a number of years but is also involved in Leeds Comhaltas and was a member of the winning All Britain Ceili Band 2002. Chris has also played in Mike Harding's band and is also currently singer/fiddler in the folk-rock band `Gaelforce'.

Chris Dyson says: "The songs are mainly the choice of Gordon Tyrrall, main vocalist & guitar player.  We do traditional Irish classics `The Rocks of Bawn`  which has strong links with the Leeds Irish diaspora, and we do a lovely version of the classic Shule Aroon with the verse in the English language & the chorus in Irish & 3 part harmony.

We have a number of Scottish songs, indeed we play for Burns Night, so have several of the classic Rabbie Burns songs such as Green Grow the Rushes & Rattlin Roarin Willie. Most of our songs are Irish & Scottish but we do a few others such as Thousands & More from the Copper family repertoire.

Tune wise, we play all manner of traditional tunes from Ireland & Scotland, from Scottish west coast bagpipe tunes to jigs & reels from the west of Ireland and a couple of numbers by the 17th century blind harper O Carolan."

Join them for an evening of lively, Celtic folk music and song.
