About

The Right Queer Right Now Weekender features six days of unapologetically bold, joyous and thought-provoking performance, film, food and party fun.

Right Queer Right Now celebrates contemporary queer arts and culture during LGBTQIA+ history month. The festival programme is intellectually smooth, emotionally chic and fashionably early in the year.

We are proud to present this line-up, filling Theatre in the Mill venues, and taking over the University of Bradford’s AmpBar to deliver a programme of talents from theatre-makers and more from right here in Bradford as well as across the UK.

Programme for 1st-2nd March

-Friday Feast with Lady Bushra & South Asian Queer Joy

Come join us this Friday 1st March for an evening of bold, joyous and thought-provoking performance, food and party fun

A celebratory feast for 20 people incorporating Indian Burmese vegan food, hosted by award winning South Asian drag queen from Bradford, Lady Bushra.
Stick around after the Feast with Lady Bushra and enjoy a new cabaret/ party lineup that celebrates and spotlights South Asian Queer Joy. Breaking down misconceptions around being queer and South Asian and instead embracing culture and queerness to create something new, beautiful and authentic.

- A horror-themed choreographic show stops at RQRN Festival, as part of a UK and international tour

Marikiscrycrycry present Goner, a horror-themed choreographic show will stop at a University of Bradford festival as part of a UK and international tour.

Marikiscrycrycry will hold a workshop and two performances during the second and final weekend of the Right Queer Right Now (RQRN) festival.
2nd March 19.00hrs - doors opening 6.30pm  included in the weekend pass, alongside the dance workshop (14.30hrs on the 3rd March) PLUS ACCESS TO AN AMAZING ARRAY OF OTHER ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.

ThIs new shows include a horror-themed choreography piece, based on the character The Goner, looking at themes including alienation, migration and violence. It follows someone who is doomed with no chance of survival—bound to death, a lost and hopeless case. It is the brainchild of Malik Nashad Sharpe, a choreographer and movement director whose work features dance and dark fantasy.

Malik said: “It feels really amazing to be able to go back to Bradford and to show a new work to the audiences that are there. I developed most of my last show in Bradford and so it feels really exciting to be able to come back there because I had such fond memories of my experience and I felt very inspired. I love the city”

Marikiscrycrycry will also hold performances in the USA, Lithuania, Sweden and Denmark during the tour, which will end with a series of shows in London in May 2025.
