Queer East returns to Bradford with a weekend of bold, boundary-pushing cinema from East and Southeast Asia. This touring programme celebrates LGBTQ+ stories that challenge norms and illuminate underrepresented voices.

Friday 28 November, 19:00 Kuch Sapney Apne [Dreams Such As Ours] (15) (India, Dir. Sridhar Rangayan) A heartfelt drama about Kartik and Aman, a gay couple in Mumbai whose relationship is tested by infidelity and family tensions. A follow-up to Evening Shadows, this film explores love, forgiveness, and the resilience of queer relationships, set to a vibrant soundtrack.

Saturday 29 November, 14:30 My Sunshine (18) (Japan, Dir. Hiroshi Okuyama) On a snowy island, a young boy’s fascination with a figure skater blossoms into a tender bond. This poetic coming-of-age tale gently critiques gender norms and celebrates the quiet beauty of childhood connection.

Sunday 30 November, 13:30 A Journey in Spring (18) (Taiwan, Dir. Tzu-Hui Peng & Ping-Wen Wang) An elderly couple’s quiet life in Taipei is haunted by the absence of their estranged son. Shot on 16mm, this intimate portrait of aging, regret, and unspoken grief is a moving meditation on family and identity.
As part of Queer East On the Road 2025, a nationwide touring season taking place from October to December in 15 cities across the UK. Queer East is a cross-disciplinary festival that showcases boundary-pushing LGBTQ+ cinema, live arts, and moving image work from East and Southeast Asia and its diaspora communities.
