About
Experience the eerie brilliance of Nosferatu like never before in this special screening with a live, improvised soundtrack. Directed by F.W. Murnau in 1922, this silent horror classic—widely considered the first screen adaptation of Dracula—features unforgettable imagery, from Count Orlok’s elongated shadow to the haunting landscapes of Eastern Europe.
Originally banned and nearly lost due to a legal battle with Bram Stoker’s estate, Nosferatu survives today as a masterpiece of German Expressionist cinema.
This screening features a newly commissioned live score by Frame Ensemble, the UK’s only group dedicated to improvised silent film music, joined by award-winning Leeds-based composer Ben Gaunt. Expect a haunting blend of electronics and spontaneous soundscapes that bring fresh life to this cinematic legend.
Presented by Northern Silents, in partnership with the National Science and Media Museum, The Stoller Hall, and Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture, with support from the BFI and National Lottery funding.
