You will design and make an ‘illuminated letter’ (a decorative initial) using collage materials and techniques, for you to frame and display.

WHAT WILL I GET FROM THIS WORKSHOP?

You will work with a range of papers, stickers and tapes to design, cut and stick a decorative design with an initial of your choosing at the centre.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Illuminated letters first made an appearance in medieval manuscripts, where the decoration around the letter gave clues to the content of the book. We will use this workshop to create a personalised design for someone of your choosing: you will decide what initial you want to decorate, explore what imagery you would like to include, and then use collage techniques and processes to layer up your design and create a striking personalised design for your wall.

Everything you need is provided, just bring an idea of who you would like to create your illuminated letter for. You will take away an A4 design that can be kept or given away as a present, and that will fit a standard size frame.

This workshop is designed to be relaxed and low key, taking time to reflect on our activities and subject matter. . Everyone is encouraged and supported to work at their own pace.
