Christine Sanders | Anne Lister

About

Local performance poet Christine Sanders will be appearing at Wave of Nostalgia in Main Street, Haworth helping celebrate Anne Lister’s birthday by performing a second selection of poems from Women her collection on the loves of Shibden Hall’s most famous lesbian resident.

Her full-length collection Women, tracks the whole of Anne Lister’s love life.  Each of Anne’s lovers from Eliza Raine (1810), right through to Ann Walker (1840) all appear.  They each have a voice; they are all heroes of their own story.  At the event a selection of poems tracing the relationships between Anne Lister and Mariana Belcombe, Frances Pickford, Maria Barlow and Ann Walker will be performed.

Wave of Nostalgia, winner of the Northern region Independent Bookshop of the Year is themed on Strong Women. Owner Diane Park is really looking forward to welcoming Christine and her team to the cobbled Main Street of Haworth. She says “The combination of a fantastic performance poet in Christine Sanders and legendary local hero Anne Lister is something very special. The performance that Christine gave last year made it probably the most moving event we had – this new selection of poems will definitely make for a very emotional evening.”

The event can also be joined by Zoom if you can’t get to Haworth for the event.
