About
The Bradford Refugee Week Great Get Together is all about celebrating what we have in common, what we can achieve together, and the fantastically diverse city we live in. It’s part of the Jo Cox Foundation's summer Great Get Together campaign to celebrate Jo Cox’s ‘More in Common’ message. https://www.jocoxfoundation.org/about/. June 22nd would have been Jo Cox’s birthday.
It is a family friendly event that takes place in Peel Park, close to central Bradford. We have live music, performance art, bubbles, face painting, bouncy castles, stalls, games, community kitchens, a smoothie bike, free fruit and soft drinks, guest visits by emergency services, and lots of laughter. Many of the attractions are laid on by refugee and migrant community groups, and many others by local community organisations. It is a joyful and wonderful event that has occurred since 2016 and attracts 1000 people or more over the course of the afternoon. Everyone is welcome; we want nobody to feel excluded or unable to attend, so there is no entry fee, and no charges for any attractions, food, or drink at the event. It is being organised collaboratively by local voluntary sector organisations and individuals with the support of Bradford Council’s Stronger Communities initiative.
