About
Meet Barbara Walker and Colin Jarvis at Baildon Railway Station at 11.00 am on Friday October 31st. Please don’t park in the station car park. There is on street parking nearby. Why not travel by train? The Bradford train arrives at 10.56 and the Ilkley one at 10.40.
This 6 mile walk follows Idlegate, an ancient track through Buck Woods, past an old mill dam, through ginnels in Thackley and up the old Crooked Lane. We will stop to look at an old Quaker Burial ground before heading for Towngate (awarding winning) Fisheries, where we can buy fish and chips (or bring a packed lunch). The New Inn next door opens at 12.00 and we can use their beer garden to eat our fish and chips etc. or our packed lunch.
We return via Idle Recreation Ground and cross the old turnpike road (or Leeds Rd. as it is now known) following a good footpath down to the canal, back along the tow path, across the footbridge, returning to the start by a slightly different route.
Not for the faint hearted – new scary ghost stories !
Please come dressed for whatever the weather is offering on the day. Sorry – we cannot accept dogs on our guided walks.
