About
Did you know that on the canal banks of Apperley Bridge you will find an original, 200 year old blacksmith's forge? Take this chance to step back in time and observe a traditional craftsman at work as we open our forge to the public.
Nestled next to Dobson Staircase Locks on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, the forge forms part of the larger, Grade II Listed canal workshop. The forge is complete with fireplace, bellows, chimney and is surrounded by original canal paraphernalia.
David, our blacksmith, will be carrying out practical demonstrations in the traditional craft of blacksmithing for visitors to observe and will be happy to answer your questions about his techniques in this wonderful heritage skill. Prepare to be mesmerised! You might even get to admire a narrowboat or two ascending the locks as you watch!
