About
Join Khula African Arts for a lively, hands-on session with chants, singing, and a live drummer. Bring your wellies and get ready to stomp, clap, and groove in this energetic celebration of African dance tradition!
Step into the rhythm of South African mining history! Gumboot dance began in the gold and diamond mines of South Africa in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Miners were often forbidden to speak while working underground, so used stomps, slaps, and hand signals with their wellies to communicate, entertain, and express themselves.
Please bring your wellies, all ages welcome, but all children must be accompanied by an adult.
BRAVE Festival is run by Swirl Education and supported using public funding by Arts Council England, Bradford 2025 and Bradford Metropolitan District Council.
