About
This taster session on Saturday, 3 May will introduce you to cyanotype—the original 'blue print'.
Also known as sun prints, cyanotype creates striking blue and white images. It is dubbed 'alternative photography' because it is different from the traditional photographic process, particularly in the face of our modern reliance on digital cameras and imagery. Cyanotype is beautifully simple; possibilities are endless, creating a lovely meeting of science and art.
In 45 minutes, you will be guided through the cyanotype process, learn a little about its history, and see lots of examples to illustrate its potential. You'll then have the chance to make two botanical prints of your own to take home.
This is a hands-on session with immediate results, and is safe for children (under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult). Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Whilst the cyanotype process is safe, the chemicals can stain clothing.
The workshop is led by Zoe Platt of Short and Few, an artist educator and graphics practitioner who runs creative workshops with the mission to inspire, empower, and engage. The session takes place in the beautiful setting of the Ilkley Manor House courtyard.
