This fortune doll dates back to the 1800s. Beneath the doll's skirt are folded pieces of paper with handwritten fortunes. This doll was used as a fun fortune-telling game to entertain guests at parties or gatherings.

Many cultures and countries have customs or beliefs about luck and fortune, practiced throughout the year or at specific times, such as the New Year. Some objects are considered lucky charms or talismans. People eager to discover their future often have their fortune read by fortune-tellers, traditionally using tarot cards, tea leaves, or palm readings.
