Artist Caro Blount-Shah's Pinny Piece, featuring photos of twelve of the blue plaques on buildings around the Bradford District

About

Pinny Piece is a full size appliqued cotton apron by Caro Blount-Shah, featuring photos of twelve of the blue plaques on buildings around the Bradford District. As well as marking the collective action of the Women’s Humanity League.

The Women's Humanity League campaigned for peace in the first world war, the plaques honour pioneering women from the Bradford district who made positive change happen. The artwork will be on show at the Mechanics Institute, Kirkgate, Bradford from Thursday 17th September to Sunday 20th September. The artist, Caro Blount-Shah, who made Pinny Piece will be at the Institute on Thursday 17th September.

One of the blue plaques shown on the pinny is on the building frontage at the Mechanics Institute and features a new round plaque to Florence White, who set up the National Spinsters’ Pensions Association with her sister Annie.

Alongside the Pinny are fabric bunting portraits of the women featured in the pinny, some suggestions for new names which could be added and a booklet with information on where to find the plaques.
