Artist Painting.

About

A powerful portrait of resilience, legacy, and identity.

In this moving new documentary by Bradford-based director Tom Harmer, four Afro-Caribbean elders—Headley, June, Vie, and Juleth—share intimate stories of migration, work, and belonging. As artist Jamie Steward listens and paints their portraits, the film explores the deep responsibility of truly seeing and representing someone through art.

Filmed in and around Bradford, Painted is a heartfelt reflection on memory, racism, and the quiet strength of a community that helped rebuild postwar Britain. With Jamie’s artwork unfolding stroke by stroke, the film offers a tender meditation on what it means to be seen.

Premiere Night Highlights:

  • View Jamie Steward’s original portraits, finalists in prestigious art competitions

  • Live Q&A with the cast and guest speaker

  • All profits donated to the Black Health Forum’s Wellbeing Café in Bradford
