Step into the world of Orpheus, the legendary musician whose music could move gods and mortals alike. Jasdeep Singh Degun’s thrilling reimagining of Monteverdi’s beautiful baroque masterpiece brings music drawn from the Indian classical tradition, performed by South Asian artists, opera singers, and Opera North musicians.
The music interweaves the original Italian text with translations by Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE, Shahbaz Hussain, and others, creating a dialogue across cultures and time.
Orpheus was first performed by Opera North in collaboration with South Asian Arts-UK in 2022, winning multiple awards, including Outstanding Achievement in Opera at the UK Theatre Awards and Best Stage Production in the Asian Media Awards.
