About

Step into the rich history of Bradford’s Jewish community on this engaging, guided walking tour through Manningham, once the centre of the city’s thriving Jewish Quarter.

Led by local historian Nigel Grizzard, this fascinating tour explores the lives, achievements and lasting influence of the German Jewish families who helped shape Bradford from the early 19th century onwards. Beginning inside Bradford Synagogue, you’ll discover how this vibrant community contributed to the city’s industrial success, cultural life and remarkable architecture. Along the route, hear the stories of influential merchant dynasties and notable figures including acclaimed war poet Humbert Wolfe and celebrated artist Sir William Rothenstein.

Covering approximately two miles, the walk offers a unique opportunity to explore Bradford’s history through place, memory and heritage, uncovering the legacy of a community whose impact can still be felt today.

Perfect for history lovers and curious explorers alike, this outdoor tour requires comfortable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing.
