About

Join us for the next concert in the Music at the Museum 2026 season as we continue this year’s programme at Bradford Industrial Museum, running alongside our regular events at Cliffe Castle.

This performance features the Stroke of Genius Big Band, founded by professional trumpet player and teacher Enrico Marchesi. Enrico’s life changed dramatically when he experienced a significant stroke in his forties, leaving him unable to play the trumpet and needing support with everyday tasks. With the help of medical specialists and the Stroke Association, he gradually regained the ability to play again.

As part of his recovery, Enrico brought together friends, students and fellow stroke survivors to form the Stroke of Genius Big Band; a group dedicated to raising funds and awareness for the Stroke Association. Since starting up in 2013, they have raised over £30,000 to support the charity’s work.

The band performs a lively mix of big band swing in the classic Glenn Miller style, complete with vocalist led numbers, alongside upbeat Latin favourites including salsa and cha‑cha. They regularly play for tea dances and community events, bringing a joyful sound to audiences of all ages.

Enrico has since returned to full time professional music making and continues to coach and perform with the band. Many members have personal connections to stroke through family, friends or colleagues, reflecting the wide impact strokes have across all ages.

We’re delighted to welcome them to the museum.
