Ilkley Literature Festival is the longest‑running literature festival in the North of England, first established in 1973. Taking place over 17 days every October, the festival brings together more than 100 events, including author talks, panel discussions, poetry readings, performances, writing workshops and interactive experiences.
Known for its rich and varied programme, the festival has welcomed some of the world’s most celebrated writers across its history. Past guests include W.H. Auden, Alan Bennett, Maya Angelou, Margaret Atwood, Ted Hughes, Hilary Mantel and Poet Laureate Simon Armitage.
A cornerstone of the region’s cultural calendar, the festival continues to champion exceptional writing, fresh ideas and inspiring voices.
