About
This 11 mile walk is led by Burley in Wharfedale Walkers Are Welcome.
The walk starts at Darwin Gardens car park, climbing steeply up to White Wells to reach the Millennium Way, and then along Rocky Valley towards the Cow and Calf rocks. Keeping to the moor edge above Stead and Burley Woodhead, the route then climbs steadily up to the crest of Burley Moor at Lanshaw crags before heading to historic Horncliffe Well. After crossing over Bingley Road, we loop past Birch Close Farm to reach the Dick Hudson’s pub before ascending Bingley Moor, eventually passing the Twelve Apostles stone circle. We cross Backstone Beck on Ilkley Moor to drop back down to Ilkley.
Difficulty: The route is strenuous with a number of moderate climbs, with uneven and rocky moorland paths some of which may be muddy and there are a small number of stiles. There is one stream to cross where rocks may be slippery. Walking poles would be an advantage, and walking shoes or boots and waterproofs essential.
Food: Please bring a picnic lunch, snacks and plenty to drink.
